FEARLESS HYENA: Returning victorious from his Seasonal Film experience, Lo Wei gave Jackie Chan free rein on this lower-budget production. Unfortunately, for every success in this film (including the ingenious ‘Emotional Kung Fu’), there is a tiresome period of waste to wade through. Naturally, the action is well above the norm, but Chan’s tendency to bounce from one idea to the other hurts the piece as a whole. Rating: 3 / 5 . FEARLESS HYENA PART II: Weak beyond comprehension, the follow up to the original box-office annihilator, not classic Chan itself, is one of the low-points on anyone’s filmography. Doubles and stale footage are chopped and chucked into a soulless mincing machine to produce a messy ‘would-be’ cash cow; Dean Shek is on hand, as are much of the original cast, but Jackie luckily jumped ship before filming ended and the movie sunk his career. Rating: 0 / 5 .
